As mentioned in a previous post, I’m currently working on a new affiliate splash page to advertise using Google Adwords.
After compiling a report to make sure my idea was financially viable, I began sourcing some retailers for my new page. Next, I submitted a few requests and I’m happy to report that I’ve been accepted by 5 of the 6 I applied for.
However, one of my affiliate requests have been declined. I’m not sure why but I’m guessing it’s because of something to do with my page. While I’m not disappointed at all about their decision, there are a few things I’d like to point out when choosing affiliates:
- Big name affiliates (such as Tesco) can be very picky about who they choose to advertise their products for them as they do not want to tarnish their image (not like I was going to do that anyway)
- Big name affiliates (such as Tesco) will offer you LOWER commissions per sale than small companies because they believe their brand will drive more sales for you. For my product, other companies offered at least £10.00 per sale whereas Tesco would only offer me £4.00. A big difference in commission there.
When choosing affiliates do not be afraid of doing a little more searching to find some smaller companies to do business with you because, in the long run, it should equal more profit. Needless to say, I’m not worried about not securing Tesco’s £4.00 because I’ve got some great companies that will give me more than £10.00 per sale.
If you’re looking for some affiliate products to sell (It’s pretty good for supplementing website income if you choose a related product) then take a look at companies below:
ClickBank
Specialises in ebook products in a wide variety of categories. A quick tip for when you are choosing an affiliate with Clickbank is to pay attention to the % reffered of products. Make sure you choose a product with a high % reffered because this means the product’s salespage is converting sales well.
TradeDoubler
An affiliate network which has many big name merchants such as Carphone Warehouse and Dell. Also houses some smaller companies such as dialaphone and ASOS. The layout of Tradedoubler is pretty nice and there’s a search function for affiliates. Tradedoubler is my favourite affiliate network.
Affiliate Future
Affiliate Future is another affiliate network and has smaller merchants such as Phones4U. There’s some good merchants here that offer high commissions.
